Introduction: The present age is the age of science and technology. In this ultra-modern age, science has invented many wonderful things. Computer is one of them. Computer has opened a new era in all spheres of our lives. Now-a-days, lots of things are done with the help of computer. It works like the Aladin's magic wand.

History: It took a long time and hard labour to invent computer. First of all Pascal invented the theory of ‘Digital Calculating System" in 1642. Finally Mr. Howard Akin, an American invented such machine that could do difficult sums. After that modern computer was invented such as EDSAC in 1945 and ENTANCE in 1946.

Kinds of computer: Computers are mainly of two kinds. They are mode based and mathematical based. The next generation computer is mathematical based. They are digital computers. Digital computers are used for multi purposes. Now there are desktop computer, laptop computer, palmtop computer and super computer in the world.

Major components of a computer: The main parts of a desktop computer are the monitor, the CPU, the mouse and the key-board. A computer performs the following functions: (1) It receives data, (2) it processes data and (3) it emits data.

Usefulness: In the modern world, computer renders great service to the civilized life.Now we can not do a single moment without it. It has become a part and parcel in our daily life. It has greatly lessened our work load and made our life easy and comfortable. It is used in all spheres of our life like information technology , education , medical science , agriculture , trade and commerce , printing , banking , space technology , running the government and where not . Computer is now considered to be the driving force of the world. The scientific invention and research, tele-communication, e- governance, e-banking, digital education system, etc. are done by the help of computer. Medical science and foreign affairs are now fully dependent on it. Computer is a great source of income. Many people have taken computer operating and software and hardware developing as their profession .At present the Government of Bangladesh has declared to build ' Bangladesh as a Digital Bangladesh'.  So the government is trying hard to develop the infrastructures for the development of computer technology .The vision of making a  ' Digital Bangladesh' will help a lot to build a digitalized Bangladesh.


Conclusion: Computer is the driving force of the modern civilization .The vision of making a  ' Digital Bangladesh' will help a lot to spread computer knowledge among the general mass. The day is not far to come when computer will be used in all spheres of our life.

A journey by boat I have recently enjoyed / A journey by boat I made Bangladesh is a land of rivers. In this fast modern age, a journey by boat offers a different taste in our communication system. It brings us closer to the beauty of nature. A journey by boat is also interesting and pleasant. A few days ago I got an opportunity to make a journey by boat from Sadarghat, Dhaka to Fotulla, Narayangonj on a pleasure trip. Two of my friends were with me. We hired a big boat. There were two boatmen. We took our clothes and a camera with us. We started our journey at 8 a.m. The boatman and the oarsman were very nice people. The sky was clear and the weather was fine.
