Paragraph Writing: The International Mother Language Day

Image
Mother tongue is a divine gift. People of any country express their feelings, thoughts through mother tongue. But it is a matter of sorrow that the then rulers of Pakistan imposed Urdu upon us instead of our mother tongue, Bangla. Then the people of our country raised their voice against this unlawful decision. Police opened fire on a procession in Dhaka and killed many Protestants. Since then 21 February is observed every year with due honour in our country as the ‘Shaheed Dibosh.’ In 1999, the UNESCO proclaimed 21 February as the ‘International Mother Language Day’ in recognition of the sacrifice of the Language Martyrs of 1952 for achieving the rightful place of Bangla. The day is now annually observed globally to promote cultural diversity and multilingualism.

Paragraph Writing: A Street Accident

It was last Monday at 3.00 p.m. We were on our way home from school. We were trying to cross the Mirpur Road near the Science Laboratory. A boy was also crossing the road. Just at that moment, a truck was going along the road at a great speed. The ill-fated boy noticed the truck. But before he could go to the other side of the road, he was run over by the speedy truck. The truck did not stop rather it speeded away. I rushed to the spot. To my horror, I saw that he was no more a human body but a lump of flesh. He died on the spot. I was greatly shocked at this tragic scene. I cannot forget the scene even today.

The dramatic significance of ‘the murder scene’ in Othello

Image
‘Othello’ is one of the four greatest tragedies that William Shakespeare ever wrote. ‘The murder scene’ is one of the most crucial and most significant scenes of the play. In fact, it is the climax where Iago’s villainous machinations and Othello’s mind surcharged with jealousy ultimately bring about tragic conflagration. Symbols are objects, characters, figures or colors used to represent abstract ideas or concepts. ‘The murder scene’ reveals the two facts of Othello’s personality-- the dark, savage the most brutal of the one hand and the emotional, truly repentant human and desperate lover on the other hand. Othello loses all his control over himself when he is worked up to strong jealousy by the subtle machinations of Iago. Othello is extremely credulous and firmly believes whatever Iago pours into his ears. He places absolute confidence in Iago and never sees through his villainies. Othello’s decision to murder Desdemona is not only rash and reckless but also shows a s...

The role of Mark Antony in Shakespeare's play Julius Caesar

Image
Mark Antony is one of the most important characters in William Shakespeare’s masterpiece-‘Julius Caesar’. In fact, he is indispensable to the play’s action. The play would not proceed beyond the middle if there had been no Antony in it. In the first half of the play, Antony ’s role is minimal; but after the assassination of Caesar in the middle of the play, Antony ’s role becomes not only important but the deciding and determining factor.    Antony was a friend of Caesar and he was actually related to him. Caesar seemed to trust him as he placed Antony in command while he was away.  In Julius Caesar , Antony is portrayed as a handsome athlete, a runner and perhaps a playboy as well. Superstitiously, Caesar tells Antony to touch his wife's garment as he runs the race at the beginning of the play to free her from infertility. Antony agrees to do so without question. It is also noteworthy that it is Antony who offered a crown to Caesar three times at the gam...

What do you mean by Innatist theories? Discuss Innatism with research evidence.

Language acquisition is of the central topics in cognitive science. Every theory of cognition has tried to explain it. Probably no other topic has aroused such controversy. Possessing a language is the essentially human trait: all normal humans speak, no nonhuman animal does. ( Language Acquisition ) Noam Chomsky argues that children are born with a unique kind of knowledge which fits them for learning. This knowledge is embodied in a mechanism called the Language Acquisition Device or LAD. He believes that without notion such a device it is impossible to understand how children master their native language in such a short time in spite of the highly abstract nature of the rules. According to Chomsky, it would be impossible for a child to learn the abstract system of a language from such degenerate data unless he had some prior knowledge about the general character of natural languages. He argues that since children must be equipped to learn any language as a native language, ...
